Your Contribution
As a Digital Agronomy Specialist, you play a key role in developing digital solutions that support agronomic decision-making within HZPC. You combine technical expertise in data science, software development, and infrastructure with a foundational understanding of crop production systems. You support tools such as dashboards, models, and data platforms that help our agronomy teams make data-driven decisions. You work closely with domain experts, but your strength lies in translating their knowledge into scalable digital applications.

What does this involve?
Agronomy and data science are translated into practical applications to improve the performance of our varieties in seed potato production.

Specifically, your main tasks include :
  • Developing and integrating data infrastructures for seed potato production, with effective data collection and advanced analytics.
  • Supporting business decisions by extracting insights from existing and future datasets and applying them to enhance the performance of our varieties.
  • Delivering variety-specific product analyses and agronomic insights to the agronomy team and other stakeholders.
  • Designing, structuring, and implementing crop analyses for digital applications and decision support systems.
  • Creating and supporting tools such as dashboards and models to facilitate reporting and data-driven decision-making.
  • Developing and maintaining instruments to effectively share knowledge with agronomy teams, field staff, and growers, improving collaboration and cultivation practices.
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments in data and cultivation technologies and applying them to optimize business processes and analyses.
  • Actively monitoring data integrity and quality to ensure consistency and reliability within existing data infrastructures.
  • Contributing to the design of experimental research projects and providing technical support for production-related studies.
  • Investigating and advising on appropriate cultivation strategies for disease management, fertilization, and irrigation based on data analysis and crop-specific insights.
Your Profile
You are a technically driven professional with a passion for building smart solutions. You have experience developing tools and infrastructure, and you enjoy working with domain experts to translate their knowledge into digital applications. You have an affinity for agriculture or crop production. Your strength lies in your technical foundation.

Additionally, you have:
  • A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with knowledge of data science and crop science, combined with experience in agricultural crop production.
  • Proficiency in analytical tools such as SQL, Python, QGIS, and R, and familiarity with relevant software for the tasks described.
  • Excellent command of the English language in speaking, listening, and writing. Knowledge of Dutch is desirable and considered a plus.

This is a full-time, permanent role with a maximum of 40 hours per week. Together, we’ll discuss a workable structure that suits you personally. You’ll be based at our office in Joure, regularly travel to our research facility in Metslawier, and collaborate internationally with colleagues around the world.
